Giuseppe Cataldo, composer and conductor, was born in Palermo.
He studied composition, percussion instruments and choral conducting at the prestigious Music Conservatory “Vincenzo Bellini” in Palermo. He studied conducting of both opera and symphonic works with Donato Renzetti at the Academy of Music in Pescara. He then went on to further his studies of orchestration with Angelo Faja and his opera repertoire with Nicola Rescigno.

He held the position of Artistic Director of the “Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana” from 1998 to 2001 and was nominated Musical Advisor and Artistic Director for the music and dance activities organized by the Palermo Arts Council during the season of 2001. He was also Artistic Director for music and dance of the 6th edition of “Palermo in Scena 2001” (Palermo on stage 2001), one of the most important and successful Italian festivals organized by the Palermo City Arts Council, from 10th August to 14th October, with over 360 different events.


1988 In his role as conductor and Artistic Director he oversaw, for C.R Records, a recorded collection of the most recent works of young contemporary composers (Sollima, La Licata, Caruso, Modestini and Cataldo himself) all included on the album “Sincronie”.


1989 In his role as composer and arranger he oversaw, for Splash Records two record album called “Picture Number One” and “Picture Number Two”.


1990-1996 He held the position of Artistic Director and Music Director of the “Palermo Chamber Orchestra”.


He was a member of the panel of judges of the 9th edition of the Gino Contilli International Composition Contest in Messina in 1999.

He was also on the panel for the “New Opera for Prague 2000” International Composition Contest held by the Prague State Opera.
